Oh snap! Looks like the UK is joining other Western countries in banning TikTok on government phones over security concerns. The fear is that user data from the Chinese-owned app could end up in the hands of the Chinese government, which doesn’t exactly tick all the boxes for Western security interests.
The National Cyber Security Centre has been reviewing whether or not to give TikTok the boot, and now it looks like a decision has been made. The United States, Canada, Belgium, and the European Commission have already banned the app, so the UK is just following suit.
But TikTok is not happy about this potential ban, and who can blame them? They’re a popular app with millions of users, and a lot of people would be disappointed if they couldn’t use it anymore.
Stay tuned to find out more about what the UK government has to say about TikTok and their phones – we’ll be sure to keep you in the loop!
