Online Sales Assistant / Marketing and Sales Assistant

Job Description

This position will assist with developing and implementing sales, marketing and promotional programs and materials to further the diversion of university material. In coordination with the Online Sales Manager, this position will assist with determining the optimal destination for items, including sales platforms, pricing, marketing, and markdowns. As the primary creator of online sales listings, this position will process incoming material by hand, perform research on a wide variety of items to determine value and saleability based on factors such as age, function, and condition; photograph, categorize, and develop written descriptions. The range of items to be processed, evaluated, and marketed is broad and may include laboratory/scientific, IT, industrial equipment, housewares, art, books and other media, textiles, and antiques and collectibles. This position will organize and curate collections to maximize sales of like items, develop theme-based sales, and provide promotional content to the social media manager, assist with the business operations of affiliate sales platforms, and train, direct, and oversee student, temporary, and on-call employees.

The salary range for this position is $45,911 – $50,000 annually.

This position is not eligible for remote work. Regular attendance is required to meet business and customer needs.

Work conditions can be dusty and with odors from old items.

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Knowledge normally acquired in the first two or three years in college, technical, vocational or business school such as an Associate’s Degree in Business with coursework appropriate to the employing unit; six months to one year of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in sales and marketing strategies related to the employing unit; booking meetings, events and/or similar unit functions; and department operations; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Requires a valid vehicle operator’s license to perform duties of the position.

Summary of Physical Demands

Lifting merchandise from floor to counter and back again. Up to 75 lbs. Up to 35 lbs above head.

Carrying surplus items from one location to another. Up to 25 lbs for a distance of 100′.

Pushing/Pulling using carts and dollies. Up to 200 lbs. a distance of 300′.

Climbing ladders or stairs to store listed items. Up to 25 lbs.
