Why does the job exist?

The marketing coordinator of the Outdoor Recreation Division is responsible for promoting key ORD initiatives, as well as managing the office marketing grant program for communities and non-profits. This person will oversee at least $800,000 in collateral marketing grants for communities and non-profits. This work includes management of the complete grant cycle, including community outreach, managing the review cycle, and reporting on requirements and progress. This person will also run point-on communications for other critical ORD programs, including Trails, the Outdoor Equity Fund grants, and the Business Accelerator program. This outreach will include running ORD social media accounts. They will contribute to the biweekly newsletter and regularly update the ORD website. They will manage third-party marketing contractors, including consultants, outreach professionals, writers, and artists, to increase the visibility of these programs. They will have excellent writing and communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple deadlines simultaneously.

How does it get done?

Key responsibilities include:

  • Manage a complete grant cycle (from creation to reporting) of the collateral marketing grant program for communities and nonprofits
  • Manage all ORD social media accounts and contribute to the biweekly newsletter
  • Regularly update the ORD website and business directory
  • Assist with ORD-related events and conferences
  • Assist with outdoor recreation business outreach
  • Manage communications around key ORD programs, which will include writing press releases, managing contracts for marketing professionals, writers, and artists, and developing relationships with key partners in New Mexico
  • Represent the Office at the occasional in-person and virtual event
  • Present a professional, public face of the ORD on social media, owned media, and all external communications.

Who are the customers?

The marketing coordinator works to advance awareness of the ORD and its critical programs, with the primary goal of ensuring all New Mexicans eligible for the grants know how to benefit from
them. Specifically, this person works to provide the best possible execution of the marketing grant program for communities and nonprofits aiming to grow their regions outdoor economies.

The marketing coordinator also works closely with outdoor recreation businesses throughout the state to ensure they understand the divisions mission and how ORD supports sustainable economic development through outreach, programming, and events.

Ideal Candidate

Ideal candidate will have the following:

  • 2-4 years of experience in journalism / marketing / communications or a related field.
  • Excellent writing skills that prioritize clarity and voice;
  • Excellent time-management skills, including the ability to prioritize on the fly and adapt to a changing workload.
  • A demonstrated passion for the New Mexican outdoor industry is preferred.
  • Experience managing a state and/or federal grant program is preferred.

Minimum Qualification

Bachelor’s Degree and three (3) years program administration or project management in areas related to the purpose of the position. Substitutions apply. See Substitution Table below.

Employment Requirements

Must have a valid Drivers License.
Must obtain and maintain a state of New Mexico Defensive Driving Certification.

Working Conditions

This position is primarily an office position that requires familiarity with basic PC and other digital software. Regular travel throughout the state will be required as part of outreach and grant reporting requirements.
